2. Your files stay on your device
Models (IFC, RVT), rule files (IDS) and topics (BCF) that you open in the viewer are read and processed in your browser. They are not sent to us or to anyone else. We have no server that accepts such files.
This is enforced technically. The site is served with a Content Security Policy that forbids the browser to connect to other servers (connect-src 'self'). Third-party code inside the page can’t send data elsewhere either.
Whatever you save yourself (BCF file, check report, spreadsheet, screenshot) is stored by your browser as a download on your device.
3. Hosting by Cloudflare
The site is delivered through Cloudflare Pages, provided by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary access data: IP address, time, requested address, browser identifier (user agent) and referrer if your browser sends one. This is needed to deliver the site and protect it against attacks.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We have a data processing agreement with Cloudflare under Art. 28 GDPR.
Cloudflare may process data in the USA. Cloudflare, Inc. is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The transfer relies on the European Commission’s adequacy decision of 10 July 2023 (Art. 45 GDPR), supplemented by standard contractual clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). How long Cloudflare keeps access data is Cloudflare’s own responsibility; we don’t analyse it.
Fonts, icons and program files are served by openwebviewer.com itself. There is no connection to Google Fonts or any other content delivery network.
4. Storage on your device
To remember settings and your work, the viewer stores data in your browser. It stays on your device and we can’t read it. This storage is strictly necessary for the service you explicitly use (§ 165(3) Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021), so no consent is required.
localStorage
Light or dark theme, contrast level, panel widths and state, pinned properties. When you create a BCF topic, the viewer remembers the name you enter as author. When you assign a material to a class yourself in the material view, it remembers the material name and the class.
IndexedDB
For “Recently opened” the viewer stores a reference to the file (the browser’s file handle), its name, size and time, never its content. When you reopen it, the browser asks for your permission. This exists only in browsers with the File System Access API. BCF topics you create or edit stay in the browser, tied to the model, until you save them as a file.
Origin Private File System (OPFS)
When you have opened a model before, the viewer keeps a prepared copy so it loads faster next time. This storage is capped at 2 GB.
Service worker
It keeps the viewer’s program files in the browser so the site starts faster and works offline. It holds no models.
Deleting
“Clear local data” in the viewer menu removes the prepared models (OPFS). The menu item that clears “Recently opened” deletes the list of file references. Everything else, meaning settings, BCF topics kept in the browser and the service worker’s program files, you remove in your browser settings under site data for openwebviewer.com. That is also where you clear everything at once.
5. No cookies
The site sets no cookies.
6. No analytics, no tracking
We don’t measure usage. There are no analytics services, no tracking pixels, no advertising or social media embeds, and no error reports that leave your device.
7. informed.build
In a few places the viewer points to informed.build, our tool for teamwork. The “Share with the team” button only explains how that works; it sends nothing. Should a direct hand-over be added in the future, it will happen only after your explicit click, and this notice will be updated first. If you follow a link to informed.build, its own privacy notice applies there.
8. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). Write to [email protected]. Since we process no data about you apart from the access data at Cloudflare, we usually can’t identify you.
You can lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority: Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, www.dsb.gv.at.
9. Changes
If the viewer changes in a way that processes other data, we update this notice before the change goes live.
